Praying on Asle 6

Amber, a mom of a one-year-old, posted online that she needed baby food, milk, diapers and wipes for her baby, Annie.  There was something very honest and raw about her post and I felt compelled to reach out to her.  I sent her a text to let her know I would help.  I offered to meet Amber at her local store at 8 p.m. so she could shop and get exactly what she needed.  I told her I would be wearing a pink scarf and black jacket - she said she would be wearing a pink top and black pants.  We recognized each other right away in our twinzie colors and exchanged hugs.  I felt something special happening between us…we quickly moved beyond being strangers to feeling united in a common purpose, which was feeding both of our Souls.

She went directly to the baby food aisle and started stocking up.  She kept checking in with me to see if it was O.K. to add another item.  Trying to hold back tears, she told me that she was a widow, and about her recent challenges.  She was expecting a SS check on the first that barely covered rent, until then she had no money for food and diapers.  I asked if I could pray for her and she said yes.  So, right then and there, on aisle 6 we called on God to bless her and her baby and help them during this difficult time.

After the prayer I asked if she had any food for herself and she said not really and laughed saying it would be O.K. to lose a couple of pounds.  I said it was fine to buy her food as well.  She needed to take care of herself and keep up her strength for Annie.  As we continued to shop, she told me she makes money selling odds and ends through a local online flea market called Offer-up.  It just so happened, that morning I planned on donating two large bags of my clothes and had put them in my car.  I gave them to her instead to sell.  Amber checked in with me today to share that she made about $40 from the clothes so far on Offer-up and that Annie is happy, healthy and eating all her peas and carrots.
